How to Start Creating Your Ideal Life
The Power and Magic of Knowing What You Really Want
What do you REALLY want?
What would you REALLY LOVE to have in your life?
Beyond what you think is possible right now, what you think is possible in the future, and what is beyond the constraints you believe are there (such as lack of time and money or other resources), think about this question:
What do you, yourself, REALLY want?
It seems like a simple question, but for many of us it’s a challenging one to answer. The first response that often comes to mind is, “I don’t know”.
That’s not true now and it never has been true. Your true Self knows. Your true Self has always known.
The problem is, that life has gotten in the way of you finding clarity and purpose. It seems hard in our day-to-day life to know how to separate what others want from (and for) you, need from you, and expect from you, with what you really want for yourself.
Here’s another question to consider:
What is your soul (your true Self) asking you to do?
For those of you who don’t know, it’s time to ask yourself some powerful questions.
First, though, (just for now, I promise) let’s get real. Let’s stop being superficial, and let’s put aside the “social self” version of yourself that the world sees every day. Your social self cares what everyone thinks, wants to please everyone and make everyone else happy; to do the things and follow the script that you’ve been following since you were young.
It’s time to stop playing it safe because the safe version of you isn’t likely to live your true desires and reach your dreams.
The first step in connecting with your true Self is to become aware of your breath and your body, so I’ll invite you to try the following mindful meditation with journal prompts.
Mindful Meditation and Journal Practice:
Connect With Your True Self
Connecting with your true Self starts by going on a journey within and getting in touch with your body.
Sit or lie down in a comfortable position with your eyes closed or your gaze lowered.
Feel the weight of your body pressing down against the surface you are on, and observe your body settling in.
Connect with your breath. Just notice it, you don’t need to do anything special.
Do a brief body scan, starting with your toes and moving slowly up to the top of your head.
Notice how your body feels; any tension or “stuck” places are good to observe.
Once you’ve completed your body scan, become aware of your breath again.
Breathe in and out until you feel completely relaxed.
When your body feels calm and still, your true Self is online. Ask yourself how you want to feel.
Notice your thoughts and the feelings those thoughts create.
When you’re in this calm and relaxed, dream-like state of mind and connected to your true Self, it’s a good time to reflect on the following journal prompts:
Dreamtime Journal Prompts:
Regardless of your current situation, and not thinking about what you wanted yesterday or last year (or what you think you wanted), what’s that big dream that won’t go away?
What happens when you allow a little magical thinking into your life? When you allow yourself to believe in the impossible?
Imagine yourself achieving this goal. What does your life look like? How do you feel?
How will you know when you’ve achieved your dream goal?
What is one teeny, tiny step you could take today that would move you just a little closer to your dream?
Here’s the big question again:
What do you REALLY want?
As you go through the days ahead remember to:
Name it. Breathe it in. Be it. Feel it.
Meditate on it.
Move and let the feelings flow through your body.
Write it down!
Get into the habit of asking yourself every day, “What do I really want?” Feel the power and the magic as you bring your dreams into your body and out into the world.
