What is your intuition telling you?

How to listen to the inner wisdom of your body/mind

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift, and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that favors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”

Albert Einstein

How often do you trust your intuition? Intuition is defined as “the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning”. It’s often a feeling in the body; most of us are familiar with that “gut” feeling when we just know that something is either really right for us or really wrong.

But how often do you actually “listen” to that intuitive information your body is sending you?

Intuition doesn’t happen in the logical part of the brain. It’s mostly a physiological response and it’s that part of your body/mind that is begging the logical part of your brain to listen.

We often go against our intuition in order to present the social side of ourselves that we’ve created to fit into society  - the side that we think everyone expects to see.

So how do we get better at listening to that intuitive side of ourselves?

That’s where mindfulness and mindful practices - connection with the body and the breath- come in. Learning to listen to our body and becoming familiar with bodily sensations is the first step in starting the path to living your most authentic and happiest life. Thankfully, there are several mindful tools to help with that. They include:

  • Breath and grounding meditations

  • Body scans/body awareness practices

  • Guided visualizations

  • Slow mindful yoga/mindful movement practices

  • Mindful writing/journaling to connect with feelings/emotions

There are many different ways to tap into your intuition. Here are a few to get you started:

8 ways to develop your intuition

  1. Really listen and make deep connections with others. By spending time listening, really listening, to others you’ll start connecting with them both energetically and intuitively. You’ll create more intimate relationships and have deeper conversations.

  2. Notice and be curious about your bodily sensations and feelings. Throughout the day, regularly slow down or stop, close your eyes, and really check in with your body. Do a body scan and notice all the sensations in your body. Try not to be judgemental and stay curious.

  3. Make time to do nothing. Spend some time daydreaming. Get creative and get to know yourself on a deeper level.

  4. Do some stream of consciousness writing. Let yourself write without an agenda. Just write whatever comes to your mind. You may surprise yourself!

  5. Practice mindfulness in all your daily activities. The more mindful you are of your surroundings, the more aware and in tune you’ll become. Pay attention to all 5 senses.

  6. Notice how your body feels and moves intuitively during a mindful movement practice. Are you allowing your body to move the way it feels best?

  7. Get away from technology and spend time in nature. Notice colours and shapes, scents and sounds when you’re outside.

  8. Keep track of your dreams and notice the symbols. How can you use your dreams to become more intuitive?

There are so many tools we use in coaching to develop your intuitive side. You have all the answers within you to all your problems. The more creative you let yourself be, the more intuitive you will become. Have fun with it!
